CITRINE RAILROAD
CITRINE RAILROAD
This is a traditional Amish quilt pattern called Railroad Crossing. The golden and yellow plant dyed colors were used to yield a sparkle effect reminiscent of citrine quartz crystal. The background is a sage-green/gray.
The dye plants used in this piece include: Henna, yellow onions, Osage, Hopi sunflowers, oak leaf, cutch, logwood, iron.
The quilt back is pieced with remnant fabrics from the front.
This quilt is constructed entirely of organic cotton and organic fair trade linen fibers. It was machine pieced with organic cotton thread, and hand quilted with Japanese sashiko thread. The batting- middle layer- is organically grown unbleached cotton. The binding is double folded- two layers of fabric for extra durability.
Measures: approximately 50” x 50” to be used as a decorative wall hanging, or a child/baby quilt.
