THE JACKRABBIT QUILT

$7,500.00
Sold Out

One night as my daughter and I were driving home from town, we came upon two jackrabbits running down the middle of the road. They ran in front of our car for a mile or more, zigzagging and crossing each other so gracefully, like a choreographed dance, their huge ears luminescent in the headlights. It was a moment so magical that it felt like time slowed down for us to take it in. This traditional Old Maid’s Puzzle quilt block gave me an opportunity to capture that moment in quilt form. A dark night background and geometric shapes to represent those zigzagging jackrabbits illuminated in the headlights make up each block. The subtle variations in depths of shades on the dark background create an intentional profound effect. The cosmic luminescent hand stitches shine like stars in the dark Colorado sky. This piece is my best work yet.

Materials: organically grown cotton/hemp blend fabrics, organically grown cotton batting, organic cotton machine thread, mixed fibers of naturally dyed organic cottons, linen and hemp for the backing along with some print scraps from my garment sewing scrap basket, Japanese sashiko quilting thread.

Measures: 91” x 99” (queen/king bed)

This quilt was accepted to Quiltcon 2023 in the handwork category.
