A SACRED TASK
This special story quilt was born of my heart and evokes a feeling so deep in my soul. The sacred task of being a facilitator in the alchemy of seeds, soil, sunlight and water. The beautiful miracle that each seed, when nourished, has the potential of becoming. The starting point for this hand appliquéd quilt began with the traditional dresden plate folk blocks and it evolved from there.
The background fabric is organically grown unbleached linen, and the colors throughout were all naturally dyed by me here on the farm. Some of the colors I planted by seed. The hand quilting was done with Japanese sashiko thread in a freehand meandering organic pattern. The back of the quilt is composed of vintage calico, and remnants from my garment sewing scrap basket. The batting is organic cotton.
