PATCHWORK SQUARES COLOR STUDY QUILT
PATCHWORK SQUARES COLOR STUDY QUILT
The first quilt I ever made was a patchwork squares quilt so I’ll always have a love for this pattern. The background fabric was naturally dyed with a combination of dyes to yield the sagebrush color. The varying greens are sister colors all born out of the same dye pot to varying depths of shade, and then modified with indigo. A simple pattern, yet the play with color variations gives this piece a sophisticated feeling. The fabric is an organic cotton and hemp blend which gives this piece a sturdy , rustic weight. This quilt was machine pieced, and then hand quilted with Japanese sashiko thread that I dyed pink with madder root.
This quilt is featured in my book Farm & Folk Quilt Alchemy.
