The Red Mountain Quilt is named after a set of three peaks here in our San Juan Mountains. Those beautiful peaks got their name from the red iron ore that covers their surface. The low value colors you see throughout this quilt were dyed with iron water to incorporate this. The Red Mountains are rich in mining history with mining camp ghost towns scattered throughout. 

This piece was dyed with madder root. I used many different fabrics to make this quilt including organic cotton, raw silk, and organic linen. The back was dyed with indigo and the batting is organic cotton. Entirely hand quilted with Japanese Sashiko thread.
